By | Tom's Weekly Email

To my Grove family,

Our Easter Weekend
Pastor Daniel Bishop will be speaking at all the Easter services this year and his title is, “The Moment Everything Changed”. If you will read Matthew 27:47-54 and Luke 24:1-8 you will be ready for this very special Easter message. We have many services happening this Easter weekend so I am listing their times one more time.  Our Good Friday services are Friday, April 14, at 5:00 p.m. (deaf interpretation) and 7:00 p.m. (no Children’s programming). Our Easter services are Saturday, April 15, at 5:00 p.m., andSunday, April 16, at 7:00 a.m. (outdoor service so bring your own chairs; no Children’s programming), 9:00 a.m., and 11:00 a.m. (Spanish Service in C-100). Deaf interpretation will be at all Easter services. Remember as we approach Easter weekend to be inviting friends and family who need to hear the good news of Jesus. After Easter on April 22/23, we will be starting a new four-week sermon series called, “The Pursuit of Happiness”.

Easter Egg Hunt
After the 7 a.m. service on Sunday, April 16, there will be 1,200 Easter eggs around the grass area for the kids to go find. In each egg will be a little treat. We want there to be plenty for all so please limit your child to a five-egg maximum. Parents, we’ll need your help by allowing the little ones (5 and under) to have a five-minute head start then the older ones can join in. This should be a fun experience for the kids, but parents feel free to go egg hunting as well (one-egg maximum for parents). Please enjoy.

Baptisms
Baptisms are available to anyone interested this Easter weekend. They will happen after the 5 p.m. Saturday service and after the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.Sunday services. Send interested people to the Gym so they can meet with a pastor before getting baptized. As usual, we will be giving baptism t-shirts to everyone being baptized. For those people who did not plan to do this in advance and therefore didn’t bring a change of clothes, we’ll loan them a pair of shorts and a towel to be returned after their baptism.

Starting Point for people wanting to learn more about The Grove isWednesday, April 19, from 6:30-8:00 p.m., in D-2. This is an opportunity to learn about The Grove by hearing the heart and vision of our senior and lead pastors with an overview from our Ministry Team. Click here to register.

Summer Splash
Summer Splash is June 26-30 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. This event is open to students going into Pre-K through students going into 6th grade in Fall 2017. Pre-K students must be 4 years old by September 1, 2017, to participate. Online registration will be available starting April 22 at thegrove.cc/summersplash.

Can’t wait to see this you this Friday evening and Easter weekend!

The Grove’s Weekly Message from Tom – March 30, 2017

By | Tom's Weekly Email

To my Grove family,

Weekend Message
This weekend I will be preaching in all the services and my message is called, “We Are Called to Wash Feet”. We may not be called to wash each other’s feet today, but in this passage Jesus is definitely calling us to do something that is very important to Him. There are also four important decisions from this text we need to consider and respond to in each of our lives. If you will read John 13, Matthew 20:25-28, 1 John 1:9, Philippians 2:8-9, 1 Corinthians 11:23-30, Isaiah 1:18, and Philippians 2:5-8, you will be ready for the message this weekend. Hope to see you all there. This message leads us right in to communion so I pray you come this weekend with your heart open for the message and prepared to take communion together.

Easter
Our Good Friday services are Friday, April 14, at 5:00 p.m. (deaf interpretation) and 7:00 p.m. (no Children’s programming). Our Easter services, are Saturday, April 15, at 5:00 p.m., and Sunday, April 16, at 7:00 a.m. (outdoor service so bring your own chairs; no Children’s programming),9:00 a.m., and 11:00 a.m. (Spanish Service in the Chapel). Deaf interpretation will be at all Easter services.

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday morning.

Community Center Grand Opening in Perris
On Saturday, April 8, we will be hosting the Grand Opening of The Good Hope Community Center in Perris. It will be a day full of fun and activities. If you are available to volunteer the day before or the day of, please contact Stephanie at 951-943-9126 or smorales@thegrove.cc.

Perris Community Center Job Opportunity
We are currently hiring for the position of Ministry Program Assistant at the Good Hope Community Center in Perris. This is a part-time position working alongside our Center Administrator. Click here for a detailed job description or to apply.

Do You Want to Serve?
If you want to serve in a ministry that will reach out and connect with a lot of people here at The Grove and in our community, the Hub Ministry may just be the spot for you. Our biggest need is for help during the week and we also have openings on the weekends. If this is something you may want to consider, contact Adrienne at Abardos@thegrove.cc. This is a very important ministry opportunity at The Grove and we would love your help.

See you all this weekend,

To my Grove family,

Insanity of God Movie Night

Please note the correct time of the movie: February 17 at 6:30 p.m.

The Insanity of God movie is the true story of missionaries Nik and Ruth Ripken. After the death of their son, this ordinary couple journeys into the depths of the persecuted church, asking the question, “Is Jesus worth it?” Join the Ripkens as they tell the story of being taught by believers in persecution “how to follow Jesus, how to love Jesus, and how to walk with Him day by day even when it doesn’t make sense.” The film is produced by Lifeway and based on the best-selling book Insanity of God. Click here to watch a preview.

Please note that the Insanity of God movie depicts the current state of the persecuted church while leaving out graphic violence. Parents are encouraged to bring age-appropriate children (a suggested guideline is 12 years and older). Childcare will not be provided for this event. Popcorn will be provided for the first 500 people!

The Grove’s Weekly Message from Tom – Jan 25, 2017

By | Tom's Weekly Email
To my Grove family,

Have you ever seen Riverside more beautiful? In my 65 years of life I believe it would be hard to think how our city could be more beautiful…with everything being so green, the beautiful clouds, and the snowcapped mountains all around! Maybe it was a moment like this that inspired Romans 1:20. When we look around at all God’s incredible creation how can anyone say there is no God?

This Weekend’s Message
I am excited to be able to preach this weekend and will be speaking in all the services as we continue our series, “Rise Up and Shine as Jesus Did”. My title is “Invitation to a Wedding” and if you read John 2 you will be ready for the message. If you want to read Genesis 24, the story of the marriage between Isaac and Rebekah, you will get a glimpse of how they did weddings in the Old Testament and then in the times of Jesus. I often say, “God is always working behind the scenes, orchestrating our lives to get us where He wants us to be.” Now look at what I read yesterday in my devotional reading from the Message Bible from Genesis 24:14 (speaking of God), “Then I will know that you’re working graciously behind the scenes for my master.” I really liked that!

Sermon Notes
I read an interesting article on taking sermon notes. If you’d like some helpful ideas for taking notes, this article has some good ideas. You might want to incorporate a couple of the author’s suggestions into your own notetaking.

Ministry Faire
Are you looking for a place to use your God-given talents and gifts? Come to our Ministry Faire in the Gym after services this weekend and find a place to get connected doing what you love to do while blessing others. The different ministries will be represented and Grove staff and volunteers will be there to meet you and help you find the perfect place to serve. Everybody Can Do Something!

Small Groups At The Grove
Small groups are a great way to get connected with others and grow in your relationship with God. There are two unique home groups we want to highlight.

  • The Love & Respect small group led by Kendall and Gina Brown will meet weekly on Wednesday nights for eight weeks beginningFebruary 1 at 7:00 p.m. It is for married or engaged couples only, and will meet in a home near Poly High school. For more information about the group and to contact the leader, click here.
  • A sermon-based small group led by Kirk and Molly Wilson will meet at6:30 p.m. on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays at a home in Moreno Valley beginning February 4. For more information about the group and to contact the leader, click here.
Our goal is to help you find a group where you can connect and grow. There are more groups you can browse through on our website here. Please contact Trevor Christmas if you have any questions at tchristmas@thegrove.cc.

Our KIDS Ministry’s goal is to partner with parents in cultivating the spiritual growth of their children in first through sixth grade. This Ministry Assistant position is highly administrative, giving hands-on guidance and oversight to summer programs, and working as part of a team to plan and evaluate ministry effectiveness. This is a fantastic role for someone who loves kids and is passionate about ministry in the church! For a full job description and to learn how to apply, please click here.

KIDS Ministry Volunteer Opportunity
We are looking for a team of men (8-10) to help one Saturday a month to unload the recycle bins. These bins bring in funds that help provide scholarships for Summer Splash, Summer Camp, and Midnight Madness. Email Amanda Peck at apeck@thegrove.cc for more information.

Rummage Sale Bins
The collection bins arrive in our back parking lot on Wednesday, February 1. Now is the time to begin boxing and bagging those gently used items you would like to donate to our March 3 and 4 Rummage Sale. A Message from Pastor Daniel – Jan 11, 2017

Grove Family,

Hope you are enjoying the rain! I climbed up mount Rubidoux with Natalie and the boys the other day (trying to get the baby out of Nat) and Riverside was green as could be. It’s a beautiful time of year and we hope you are enjoying it. This weekend is going to be a good one. The sun will be out, football playoffs will be going on, and best of all Pastor Tom Lance will be preaching. Tom has titled his sermon, “When Temptation Comes Your Way”. Read Luke 4:1-11 and you will be ready for the sermon. Looking forward to seeing you this weekend!

Grove Family Night
Tonight we start back up with our Grove Family Night from 6:30-8:00 p.m.This isn’t just something for individual families; this is something for the entire Grove Family. That means you! We have something for everyone: men, women, youth, and children ministries are all offered. In every ministry there is a great lesson and time to connect with others in the church. Dr. Dan Wilson from Cal Baptist University will also be teaching a class on Philippians in Room D-4 tonight if that is of interest to you. We hope to see you tonight as we do our best to grow closer to God and to each other as a family!

Small Group Experience
For the Home Groups winter season launch, we will continue with a Small Group Experience on January 15 and 22 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. here at The Grove for only two more weeks and then the plan is to propel these groups into host homes. This launch is for people looking to get plugged into a new home group. Here you will experience the culture of our sermon-based small groups and get connected to others looking to join a group as well. All you need to bring is a Bible and message notes from the weekend sermon. Refreshments will be provided. Children’s programming through 6th grade will be available. Please register online here. If you have any questions, please contact Trevor Christmas at tchristmas@thegrove.cc.

Baptism
Our next baptism is Sunday, January 22, after the 10:45 a.m. service. This weekend we will have our “Talk on Baptism” after each service by Guest Central and answer any questions you might have regarding baptism. We will also have you fill out some paperwork the church needs. Come join us and learn how to be baptized. If you have any questions, contact Andy Gibeault at agibeault@thegrove.cc.

Ministry Faire
Are you looking for a place to use your God-given talents and gifts? Come to our Ministry Faire in the Gym after services the weekend of January 28/29 and find a place to get connected doing what you love to do while blessing others. The different ministries will be represented and Grove staff and volunteers will be there to meet you and help you find the perfect place to serve. Everybody Can Do Something!

The Grove 5k Fun Run
We invite you all to join us on Saturday, April 1, for our first ever The Grove 5k Fun Run. This will be a run around our campus and the surrounding areas and will be a fun family event for our church and our community. We are asking everyone to “Save the Date” so you can begin to train for this event. On the Welcome Counters there is a training flyer of how to get in shape for a 5k. If you have any questions about this event, contact Andy Gibeault at agibeault@thegrove.cc.

Have a great Wednesday!

The Grove’s Weekly Message from Tom – December 14

By | Tom's Weekly Email

To my Grove family,

This Weekend
This weekend, join us as our Celebrative Arts Department presents a very special Christmas production during normal service times. This unique production features a number of our talented Grovites as we celebrate the Christmas story through song, dance, drama, spoken word, and media. This is a great weekend to invite your family, friends, and neighbors. Go tell it in your neighborhood that Jesus Christ is born! See you there!

CBU Basketball Games
California Baptist University’s basketball teams (Lancers) will be playing at CBU on Monday, December 19, and The Grove is invited! The women’s team will be playing Saint Martin’s at 5 p.m. and the men’s team will be playing San Marcos at 7 p.m. Grove attendees and up to four guests will receive complimentary entry into the basketball games as well as complimentary parking (seats are not guaranteed). Just pick up a flyer at the Welcome Counters this weekend to show at the game or show this digital announcement at the game for free admission.

CarePortal
What if we knew the needs of at-risk children? What if the State took these needs to a community of caring churches? CarePortal connects our church to local children and families in crisis. This ministry plans to launch at the end of January. Click here for a video on hit CarePortal works. If you are interested in participating, please email Pastor Joe Hobbs.

STOP Human Trafficking Event
Did you know that every day in small towns and big cities and in countries throughout the world, women and girls are being trafficked into a horrible life of sexual slavery? It’s happening right here in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. The Grove is partnering with Soroptimist International of Riverside and Corona for a ‘STOP Human Trafficking’ event to be held at The Grove on Thursday, January 19, from 6:30-9:00 p.m., in Room C100. Come and join us to learn more about this devastating issue and how you can help. Several anti-human trafficking organizations will be represented. A $10 donation will be accepted at the door.

We Need Ham!
We are looking to collect 65 hams to pass out at the Corner Pantry. If you could purchase a ham and leave it behind your vehicle this weekend we will make sure these hams are passed out to people in need. If you would like to bring a ham down to the Corner Building you can do that, too. Just mention that it is for the Pantry.

HANDS Team Meeting – Sunday
The next HANDS Belize Trek meeting is this Sunday, December 18, at 12:15 p.m., in Room C100. HANDS men, please bring your next $250 of fundraising (for a total of $500 submitted). Also, please submit your completed application and/or color passport copy, if Taylor does not have those already. Email Taylor Maberry with questions.

Hope you are all loving this weather. See you this weekend.
