CURIOUS WHY WE FOLLOW JESUS?

What is the Gospel?

God, the Creator:
When God created the world, it was good. He had a perfect plan for all humanity. He made man and woman and put them in the Garden of Eden.

Man, the Sinner:
In the garden, man and woman were tempted and chose to sin against God and rebel against His perfect plan for their lives. With this sin came consequences, the removal of Adam and Eve from the garden. And from this choice, now all humanity would be born into sin.

Jesus Christ, the Savior:
Jesus, the Son of God, came to this earth as fully-God and fully-man. As God, He was born without sin and is the only one able to live a perfect life. His mission on this earth was to tell all those He knew that God, His Father, is real and that He was sent to this earth to be the Holy sacrifice. Jesus, died for our sins, and with Him death died, too. For Jesus, on the third day, rose from the grave! He took the punishment that we deserved and we can now have a relationship with God.

Our Response:
This salvation is a gift, one that we get to choose to accept or deny. God is Holy and cannot be near our sin, but He created a path, a bridge, a way for us to live for eternity with Him. To choose this eternal life, we must repent of our sin and by faith believe that Jesus died for our sins, rose again, and now wants to have a relationship with you!

Scriptural References

In the beginning, God created everything to be perfect. There was no sickness, disease or sadness. Everything lived in peace.

  • Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”

  • Psalm 90:2 “Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God.”

Humanity had rebelled against God and has trusted rather in the lies of Satan. Sin has entered into the world and into every human heart. Everything is now distorted and broken. Everyone has become guilty of sinning against God.

  • Romans 3:19 “The entire world is guilty before God”

Jesus, who is God, came to rescue people by taking upon Himself the punishment of their sin through His life, death, and resurrection. By faith alone in Him, anyone can have their sins forgiven and enjoy eternal life with Him.

  • 1 Peter 3:18 “Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but He died for sinners to bring you safely home to God.”

  • Galatians 1:4 “Jesus gave His life for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live.”

  • Ephesians 2:8-9 “God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.”

  • Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Everything will be restored to the way that it was supposed to be and those who trust in Jesus will enjoy eternity with God in the new heaven and earth.

  • Revelation 21:3-4 “God’s home is now among His people! He will live with them, and they will be His people. God Himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”

God is inviting you to be part of His story. Our part is only to respond to His invitation with faith.

  • Romans 10:9-11 “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved…“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Here is how you can respond right now:

  • Admit your need to God.

  • Ask Him to forgive you.

  • Trust in Jesus alone to rescue you from your sin and punishment.

  • Follow Jesus Christ in faith as the King of your life from this day forward.
